Portfauxlio Inc. has built a reputation for excellence, integrity and unsurpassed designs. We create signature custom finishes for surfaces to meet the color and design preferences of our clients. These hand-painted or applied finishes include authentic plasters and textures, faux marbles, exotic wood grains, gilding, decorative patterns, gorgeous glazes and custom hand-painted wallpapers.
You’ll be amazed by the richness and color, depth, and movement that our finishes can bring to your space. We direct our skill, imagination and creativity into design environments which are a reflection of our clients’ tastes, be they zen-like havens or dramatic energizing spaces. Our clients are delighted when they retreat into their private or public areas where their favorite colors, textures and imagery provide them with a sense of well-being.

Aliya Riaz is the creative force behind Portfauxlio Inc. She started the company in New Jersey in 2000 with the firm conviction that a great service backed by trust, accountability and putting clients first would gain a foothold in an often haphazard industry.
Aliya is a BBC trained broadcast journalist and has worked on television and radio for over a decade. She gave in to her passion for the decorative arts by enrolling in a two year intensive course in decorative techniques, color theory and period design at London’s City and Guilds Institute in England. She is one of a handful of City and Guilds certificated Interior Decorative Artists in the U.S.
Much of her craft has been passed down from recipes of master craftsmen over the centuries and uses age old formulas. Aliya was very fortunate to work with the late Master craftsman Brian Rhodes, a gifted decorative painter and writer of several definitive books on the history and application of interior decorative techniques including “Parry’s Marbling and Graining”. She also studied trompe l’oeil with Pierre Finkelstein, author of “The Art of Faux”. Another important influence was and is Dean Sickler — a professional decorative painter and a teacher of his craft — who helped Aliya with the transition of switching to American material, along with instilling a great interest in the study of plaster.
Aliya teaches at Dundean Studios in Chatham, NJ. She also conducts demonstrations of decorative technique work for Sherwin Williams and Janovic Plaza Paints in New York City.
